#5 Wisconsin Badgers (5-0)At Illinois Fighting Illini (4-1)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 12:00 p.m.

The nation's longest winning streak is on the line in Champaign this Saturday, as the fifth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers try to make it 15 in a row when they come calling on the surprising Illinois Fighting Illini. The Badgers have won a school-record nine straight Big Ten bouts, although their two league wins this year have been by an average of just 3.5 points. Wisconsin is playing only its second away game of the season this week, and the road to a possible Big Ten championship doesn't get easier next Saturday as the team heads to Happy Valley for a date with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Speaking of Joe Paterno's club, it was Illinois that handed the then 21st-ranked Lions their second straight loss last week in a 27-20 final.

As a result, the Illini are 4-1 for the first time since 2001 and it was their first win over a ranked opponent in their last 19 tries. Illinois is 2-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since 1991 and this bout against the Badgers is one of seven the club will play against teams that played in a bowl game last year. Illinois owns a narrow 35-33-7 edge in the all-time series with Wisconsin, but the Badgers have won the last four meetings, and five of the last six in Champaign.

Miami - Florida Hurricanes (4-1)At North Carolina Tar Heels (1-3)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 12:00 p.m.

The Miami-Florida Hurricanes invade Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill for an ACC clash with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Since a 51-13 trouncing at the hands of Oklahoma, the Hurricanes have regained some momentum by winning each of their last three bouts. Though they were three games the Hurricanes were expected to win, coach Randy Shannon and his team will take the wins any way they can get them, as the conference slate only gets tougher from here on out. Last weekend, the Hurricanes narrowly beat a Duke program that has given them fits for the last two seasons.

Across the other sideline, the Tar Heels are trying to snap a four-game slide since a season-opening win over James Madison that now seems like ages ago. But UNC battled valiantly last weekend against the 15th-ranked Hokies of Virginia Tech, who dealt the Tar Heels a 17-10 loss. North Carolina head coach Butch Davis coached at Miami from 1995-2000, and this will be the first time the 'Canes face their former skipper. UNC has dropped all three of its road contests this season, as the Tar Heels are no doubt happy to be back in Chapel Hill. The all-time series between these two schools is tied at five wins apiece, although the Hurricanes are winless in two tries in Chapel Hill.

Northwestern Wildcats (2-3)At Michigan State Spartans (4-1)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 12:00 p.m.

A set of teams trying to find their way back into the win column collide in East Lansing this Saturday, as the Northwestern Wildcats tangle with the Michigan State Spartans in Big Ten action. The Wildcats enter the contest on the decline, as they have dropped their last three games following back-to-back wins to open the season. Most recently, the team dipped to 0-2 in Big Ten play following a 28-16 setback to Michigan this past weekend. The team now heads out to the road for just the second time this season, losing its first outing on foreign soil, 58-7, at nationally-ranked Ohio State.

As for MSU, it concluded a brief two-game road swing with a tough 37-34 setback at nationally-ranked Wisconsin this past weekend. It was the Big Ten opener for the Spartans, who won their first four games of the year. The team now returns back home, where it has gone a perfect 3-0 thus far. MSU leads the all-time series against Northwestern, 32-15, and that includes a dramatic 41-38 come from behind victory in last season's meeting in Evanston.

Arizona Wildcats (2-3) At Oregon State Beavers (2-3)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 4:00 p.m.

The Oregon State Beavers shoot for their first Pac-10 Conference win this weekend as they suit up and host the Arizona Wildcats at Reser Stadium. Since winning two of the first three games of 2007 versus the likes of Utah and Idaho State, the Beavers have had their issues. A loss to Arizona State in Tempe (44-32) was followed by last week's 40-14 setback versus UCLA in Corvallis, dropping the team to 0-2 in league play.

As for the Wildcats, they recorded their first Pac-10 victory of the season last weekend with a 48-20 thrashing of Washington State at home. The win snapped a two-game slide for Arizona, now just 2-3 after beating up on Northern Arizona earlier in the campaign. As far as the all-time series is concerned, Arizona has taken 20 of the previous 30 meetings between the schools. However, after winning just twice between 1966 and 1998, OSU has made some strides against the Wildcats by claiming victory in seven of the last eight affairs. Last season in Tucson, Oregon State captured a 17-10 triumph.

#6 South Florida Bulls (4-0)At Florida Atlantic Owls (3-2)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

The sixth-ranked South Florida Bulls take a break from Big East play this Saturday, as they take on instate foe Florida Atlantic from Lockhart Stadium. The Bulls enter the game on a high note, as they posted one of the biggest wins in school history in a 21-13 triumph over then fifth-ranked and undefeated West Virginia on September 28th. The win not only came in the team's Big East opener, but it also pushed USF to a perfect 4-0 on the season. The Bulls, who had never been ranked in the Top 25 before this season, jumped 12 spots in the AP Poll following last week's victory. USF, which is only in its seventh season as a full-time member of the FBS, is the fastest club in the modern era of college football to go from upstart program to Top 10 in the rankings. With a win this weekend, the Bulls would match their best start since beginning the 1998 campaign 5-0 as well.

As for FAU, it faced nationally-ranked Kentucky last weekend and proved too be no match in a 45-17 setback. The loss brought the team's two-game winning streak to an end and in the process dropped it to 3-2 overall. On a positive note, the Owls now head back home, where they are a perfect 2-0 on the year. FAU and USF have met just one time previously on the gridiron, with the Bulls winning 51-10 over the Owls in 2002.

Bowling Green Falcons (3-1) At #7 Boston College Eagles (5-0)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 12:00 p.m.

The Boston College Eagles have climbed all the way up to the seventh spot in the most recent AP poll, and they are clearly favored in this weekend's non-conference clash with the Bowling Green Falcons. Bowling Green is 3-1 so far this season, including wins in each of the last two outings. This past Saturday, the Falcons put forth a strong offensive effort in a 41-21 triumph over Western Kentucky. Bowling Green has now scored 89 points in its last two games, but Boston College obviously represents a major spike in competition level.

Speaking of the Eagles, they moved to 5-0 with a 24-14 decision over a tougher-than-expected UMass squad last weekend. The Eagles began the campaign with three straight wins over ACC foes and remain atop the league standings. This weekend's tilt marks the third of what will be four straight against non-league opponents for Boston College. The Eagles have never faced Bowling Green in football.

Kansas Jayhawks (4-0) At #24 Kansas State Wildcats (3-1)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 12:00 p.m.

Fresh off their tremendous victory over the Texas Longhorns, the Kansas State Wildcats will get set to host the Kansas Jayhawks in the 105th Sunflower Showdown this Saturday afternoon from Snyder Family Stadium. Kansas is coming off an impressive, 55-3 win over the lowly Florida International Golden Panthers, and is now a flawless 4-0 on the year. The Jayhawks' season began with four straight home games, so this will be the first road matchup for Kansas. However, don't expect Kansas to get too homesick, as the team will return to its field next weekend to face Baylor.

As for the Wildcats, they have won three consecutive games, including an outstanding 41-21 win over the Texas Longhorns on the road this past weekend. The win over the Longhorns vaulted the Wildcats back into the national rankings for the first time since 2004. Not only that, but the win over Texas was the first time KSU defeated an opponent ranked in the top 10 on the road. KSU has been one of the toughest teams to beat at home, as the school is an outstanding, 95-18-1 at Snyder Stadium over the last 17 years. This has been a very long and grueling all- time series and it has been dominated by Kansas. The Jayhawks have a solid 63-36-5 ledger in the overall series against KSU and have won two of the last three meetings.

#12 Georgia Bulldogs (4-1) At Tennessee Volunteers (2-2)

Date & Time: October 6, Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

The 12th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs hit the road for an SEC clash with the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville. Georgia owns a 4-1 record, as the only loss to date for the squad came against a South Carolina club that is currently ranked 11th nationally. The Bulldogs are riding a three-game winning streak that includes a 45-17 triumph over Ole Miss.

They were fortunate enough to avoid LSU on the regular season schedule, but tough opponents such as Florida and Kentucky are ahead. Tennessee owns a 2-2 record thus far, but the club has yet to beat a quality opponent. Wins over Southern Miss and Arkansas State have proved little, and the hope is last weekend's open date provided Tennessee ample time to rest and prepare for this critical clash against the Bulldogs. Tennessee owns a narrow 19-15-2 series lead over Georgia, and the Vols won last season's meeting by a 51-33 final.

New York Jets (1-3) At  New York Giants (2-2)

Date & Time: October 7, Sunday, 1:00 p.m.

Osi Umenyiora and a suddenly dominant defense carried the New York Giants to a win for the second consecutive week. Now, Eli Manning and the offense look to find some consistency when they face the New York Jets on Sunday in a rare regular season matchup between the Giants Stadium co-tenants. After a pair of ugly performances in two straight losses to open the season, the Giants (2-2) got a second consecutive stunning effort from their defense last week, sacking Donovan McNabb 12 times to tie an NFL record and set a franchise mark in a 16-3 win over Philadelphia. Six of those sacks came from defensive end Umenyiora - who equaled his total in 11 games last season - setting a Giants record and coming up one short of Derrick Thomas' league mark. The Giants became the fifth team to record 12 sacks in a game and the first to do it since 1985.

The Giants allowed 80 points in their first two games, but a complete turnaround seemed to occur at halftime against Washington in Week 3. The Giants held the Redskins scoreless in the final 30 minutes and made a last-minute goal-line stand to secure a 24-17 victory. The Giants managed only four sacks in the first three games to rank 26th in the league, but moved into a tie with Chicago for the NFL lead in that category with Sunday night's record-setting performance. While the Giants seem to have found themselves defensively, the offense has been inconsistent, dropping in total yardage in each game from a season-high 438 in a 45-35 Week 1 loss at Dallas to last weekend's 212. Manning hopes to rebound from a somewhat shaky effort after completing 14 of 26 passes for 135 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Eagles. He threw for 312 yards with four scores and one interception against the Cowboys but has had trouble maintaining that momentum, throwing three TDs and four interceptions since the opener.

He hopes a meeting with the struggling Jets (1-3) can help him rediscover his form from this season's opener. The Jets are coming off a sloppy 17-14 loss at previously winless Buffalo last week. They committed nine penalties for 65 yards, matching their total number of infractions over the first three games. The Jets also failed to capitalize on other key opportunities, with Mike Nugent missing a 37-yard field goal before halftime and Chad Pennington throwing two costly fourth-quarter interceptions.

Jones has struggled in his first year with New York, rushing for 254 yards with a 3.4 per-carry average and no touchdowns. The eight-year veteran, though, had a similar slow start last season with Chicago, gaining 279 yards with a 3.3 per-carry average and two TDs through four games. He finished with 1,210 yards and six scores. Even without a consistent running game, Pennington has been efficient, completing 76.8 percent of his passes for 581 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in three games. His two key mistakes against the Bills overshadowed a strong passing performance, however, as he went 32-of-39 for 290 yards and a touchdown, completing 15 consecutive throws.

Pennington has been helped by improved pass protection, which should get a test from the suddenly sack-happy Giants. The Jets have allowed one sack in each of the last two games after giving up a total of nine in the first two contests. Pennington threw for 281 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in the last meeting with the Giants, a 31-28 overtime loss Nov. 2, 2003. He forced the extra period with two fourth-quarter TD passes in the final six minutes. The Giants have won the last three meetings with the Jets and six of 10 all-time meetings. The Giants' last loss in the series came Oct. 31, 1993.

Chicago Bears (1-3) At Green Bay Packers (4-0)

Date & Time: October 7, Sunday, 8:15 p.m.

Quarterbacks like the Green Bay Packers' Brett Favre are hard to come by - just ask the Chicago Bears. Fresh off a record-setting performance, Favre will try to keep his team undefeated Sunday when the Packers host a Bears team desperate for an answer at quarterback. Favre moved past Dan Marino to become the NFL's all-time leader in touchdown passes in last week's 23-16 win over Minnesota, connecting on No. 421 to Greg Jennings in the first quarter. Favre, who also threw his 422nd TD pass to James Jones in the fourth, was pleased with the record, but said he was more excited about leading his team to its first 4-0 start since 1998.

The Packers, along with Dallas, remained one of two undefeated NFC teams. Green Bay has won eight straight, the second-longest winning streak in the NFL behind Indianapolis, which has won nine in a row. Still, it's hard to overlook Favre's individual accomplishments. Two weeks earlier, he broke John Elway's mark for victories when he led the Packers to a 35-13 win over the New York Giants. The soon-to-be 38-year-old Favre also holds the marks for career completions and consecutive starts by a QB, a streak that hit 241 on Sunday and moved him past former Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff into second place on the list for all players.

Late in the second quarter against the Vikings, Favre broke another record he shared with Marino by throwing his 8,359th pass. He's also within 2,656 passing yards of tying Marino's mark of 61,361. Favre, who has thrown 119 passes without an interception, remained three picks away from topping George Blanda for first place all-time. Favre is the focus of Green Bay's offense, which throws 68 percent of the time and ranks last in the league with 54.3 rushing yards per game. None of the Packers' top four running backs - Vernand Morency, Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson and DeShawn Wynn - have rushed for 100 yards total.

That's a claim the Bears can only dream of making. Fed up with Rex Grossman, who threw six interceptions and one touchdown pass in the first three games, Chicago switched to veteran Brian Griese for last weekend's game against Detroit. Griese, however, didn't provide much of an upgrade - he was 34-of-52 for 286 yards and two touchdowns, but threw three interceptions, one of which was returned for a score.

The Bears led 13-3 after three quarters, but allowed the Lions to score a league-record 34 points in the fourth. Banged-up Chicago was without Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs (hamstring) and the entire secondary that started the season opener. Despite the ugly outcome, Smith said Monday he's sticking with Griese. The Bears also continued to have problems running the ball, as Cedric Benson managed only 50 yards on 15 carries. As a result, Chicago's 52 pass attempts tied for third most in team history.

The Bears rank an uncharacteristic 27th in the league with 82.8 rushing yards per game. To get his team going, Smith said he is going to try to get dynamic playmakers Devin Hester and Greg Olsen more involved in the offense. In just his second season, Hester scored his seventh career touchdown on a kick or punt return Sunday, running a kickoff back 97 yards in the fourth quarter. Chicago, the defending NFC champion, is off to a disappointing start, but is taking solace in the fact that the 2005 team went 11-5 and made the playoffs despite opening 1-3.
