Draft Grade: C

Reggie Bush's
talent was to impressive
to pass up, but with
superstar Deuce McAllister
already in house, and
veteran speedster Michael
Bennett brought in to back
him up, it's certainly
going to be a crowded
backfield down in New
Orleans. Bush will be a
game-breaker in the NFL,
without question, but he
would have fit the plans
of so many NFL teams
better (such as Houston
who draft first overall or
the Jets who drafted two
spots later). They're loss
is a major gain for New
Orleans, who will likely
make McAllister trade bait
after Reggie's rookie
season. Roman Harper,
a hard-hitting Strong
Safety, was a solid second
round choice, even though
New Orleans had a greater
need for a CB (something
addressed far too late
when they acquired Josh
Lay in round six). OT
was a critical need for
the Saints, but Jahri
Evans was a major
stretch early in round
four. Rob Ninkovich
is a solid pass-rusher who
could back-up Grant &
Smith on the outside or
even convert to OLB.
Biletnikoff Award winner
Mike Haas was a
solid pick in round six as
the Saints had depth
concerns behind starters
Horn and Stallworth.
Overall, this draft is
defined by superstar
Reggie Bush, but his
impact won't be fully
realized until McAllister
is out of the picture. |
