Indy is
trying to get over the hump and make
it to a Super Bowl in the
Dungy/Manning era, but considering the
past two drafts, hopes might be
fading. With Free Agents loses of
stars like Edgerrin James, David
Thornton and to a lesser extent, Larry
Tripplett, the Colts had very specific
needs heading into Draft Day 2006.
Running Back, Linebacker, and O line
help should have been addressed on day
one. Joseph Addai was a major
stretch in round one, even though
almost anyone (including the undrafted
Dominic Rhodes) can rush in this
offense. As if the Addai stretch
wasn't enough, Indy stretched again
with the selection of miniature CB
Tim Jennings (5'8") in round two.
Jason David (another CB standing 5'8")
is already on the roster, and Indy
drafted a pair of Corners in '05
(Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden),
making the CB need far from critical.
LB Freddie Keiaho was on very
few teams' draft boards at all, so
Indy selecting him in round three gave
them the hat trick of ugly stretches
on day one. Keiaho only started one
season during his college career. Indy
wasn't even able to improve their
special teams unit. 2006 will go down
as a Draft year to forget for both the
Colts front office and for Indy fans
alike. |
