Draft Grade: B-
|
|
Buffalo performed the first
(and possibly most drastic)
stretch of the 2006 Draft
when they nabbed Safety
Donte Whitner at #8.
most had Whitner falling to
the late first or early
second rounds. At #8, he
wasn't a great value pick,
especially considering
Buffalo's obvious need for
help at DT and the fact that
both Brodrick Bunkley and
Haloti Ngata were still
available. The Bills did
entertain trade options with
that #8 pick and would've
been better off dealing it.
They stretched again in
round one, trading up as if
to say "damn, we should've
drafted that DT." After
missing out on Bunkley and
Ngata, they stretched for
John McCargo at #26. Two
major needs were addressed
in round one, but better
value could've been had.
However, as the draft rolled
on, the Bills did redeem
themselves by landing major
steals in CB Ashton
Youboty in round three,
Free Safety Ko Simpson
in round four, and DT
Kyle Williams in round
five. Youboty and Simpson,
both early entrants into the
NFL Draft, will need some
time but have very bright
futures. Williams is a
blue-collar warrior in the
middle and over the course
of his career will give
first rounder McCargo and
run for his money in the
productivity department. |
